Stronger together: How clusters change regions’ economies

Rehabilitation does not end in the facility. A person’s journey to recovery continues in the community, in the family, at work – and requires cooperation between specialists, institutions, and organisations.

In Vinnytsia region, a rehabilitation cluster has been formed around this approach. More than 15 participants have joined it: educational and rehabilitation centres, civil society organisations, businesses, architects, and IT teams. Working together helps them find solutions, share experiences, and train specialists jointly.

In Odesa region, the cluster approach is intended to help integrate different areas into a unified model for the region’s development. Individual businesses often view one another as competitors. The cluster enables them to see how their products and services can complement one another and create new value. For example, a cheese producer and a tourism business can together offer visitors a comprehensive package that neither of them could have created on their own.

Support for cluster initiatives is provided by the Swiss-Ukrainian “Ukraine’s Cohesion and Regional Development” (UCORD) Project as part of the Clusters4Regions initiative. It helps participants navigate the initial stages: formalising the cluster, defining a shared vision and roadmap, and learning how to develop projects and build teams.

The Swiss-Ukrainian project “Ukraine’s Cohesion and Regional Development”, UCORD is implemented with the support of Switzerland via Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation by NIRAS Sweden AB.
