A Draft Law of Ukraine ‘On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine on Improving Legal Conditions for the Activities of Community Self-Organisation Bodies’ (Reg. No. 15165) has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for consideration.

The Draft Law aims to update approaches to the activities of community self-organisation bodies and to create more effective mechanisms for their functioning within the local self-government system.

Key provisions of the Draft Law include:

• the improvement of the legal regulation of the activities of community self-organisation bodies;
• the expansion of opportunities for citizens to participate in resolving issues of local importance;
• the improvement of the effectiveness of interaction between residents and local governments;
• the strengthening of the role of community self-organisation bodies within the local self-government system.

The adoption of the Draft Law is expected to promote the establishment of community self-organisation bodies and the participation of residents of communities in resolving issues of local importance.

The Draft Law has been drawn up pursuant to paragraph 6.1 of the Roadmap on the Functioning of Democratic Institutions, approved by Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 475-r ‘Certain Issues Concerning the Negotiation Process for Ukraine’s Accession to the EU under Cluster 1 “Foundations of the EU Accession Process”’.
