Mykolaiv partners with Barcelona within European Mission of Cities

Mykolaiv has officially partnered with Barcelona, one of Europe’s leading cities for innovative urban policy, sustainable development, and climate solutions.

This cooperation is part of the four-year SUN4Ukraine Project, which assists Ukrainian cities in integrating climate goals into their recovery plans and transitioning towards climate neutrality. The Project brings together 12 Ukrainian communities and 14 cities participating in the EU Cities Mission, enabling them to exchange experiences, strengthen their expertise, and seek practical solutions together.

Benefits of participating in SUN4Ukraine:

  • development of Climate-Neutrality Plans that synchronise recovery and climate goals;
  • access to European practices in sustainable development, energy efficiency, and smart city management;
  • training in crisis management and recovery – an area where Ukrainian cities already have unique experience;
  • formation of partnership networks for the implementation of innovations in the municipal sector;
  • preparation for the Climate City Contract and the work of the future Ukrainian Climate Cities Centre.

For Mykolaiv, this partnership signifies a new level of integration of European approaches into urban planning and post-war reconstruction. The implementation of climate-oriented solutions, energy efficiency measures and innovative management strategies should enhance the city’s sustainability and improve quality of life for its residents.
