Lviv and the Danish city of Aarhus demonstrate tangible results of their partnership by implementing joint initiatives in water supply, heat supply and environmental development. During the visit of the delegation from Aarhus City Council to Lviv, the parties discussed further cooperation between the municipalities, which includes the development of a long-term water management strategy, reconstruction of sewage treatment plants, and creation of pilot zones to reduce water losses in the water supply system.
Special attention was paid to the development of cycling infrastructure and the introduction of modern management strategies for municipal enterprises. Lviv proposed expanding cooperation by involving international experts in the supervisory boards of utility companies, including Lvivteploenerho, similar to the approach already implemented at Lvivvodokanal.
Andrii Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv, emphasised that the city plays an important role in supporting internally displaced persons and the military, and is becoming a new centre for business. He added that Lviv has significant potential for developing cooperation with Aarhus in investment and economic partnership.
Nicolaj Bang, Deputy Mayor of Aarhus, confirmed the intention to deepen cooperation not only in times of war, but in the long-term perspective, highlighting the importance of innovative solutions for municipal development. Jesper Kjeldsen, Chairman of the Finance and Business Committee, noted that the City of Aarhus has one of the best water supply companies in the world, which opens up new opportunities for cooperation in the water management sector. Henrik Ahrens, Member of the Executive Committee of the Aarhus City Council, stressed that the Danish partner is ready to support Lviv in trade, development and other areas.

Cooperation between the cities is not limited to technical aspects. It implies the exchange of administrative experience and the implementation of European standards in municipal services. According to Dmytro Vankovych, Director of Lvivvodokanal, this cooperation not only provides technical assistance but also helps to adopt best practices in sustainable water management.
In the scope of the visit, an open workshop was also announced to be held at LEM Station. During the workshop, the representatives of the Lviv City Council and the experts from Aarhus will develop a water vision for Lviv, taking into account the successful experience of the Danish city in this area.
The cooperation between Lviv and Aarhus proves that international partnerships between territorial communities are a key factor in sustainable development. Sharing experience, investing in strategic projects, and engaging experts contribute to qualitative changes that benefit the lives of residents of both cities.
