Potsdam is the 20th sister city of Ivano-Frankivsk

Ivano-Frankivsk and Potsdam, Germany, signed a twinning agreement on the 22nd of April. On this occasion, a delegation of the municipality of Potsdam visited the Precarpathian region.
This was announced by Ruslan Martsinkiv, Mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk.

“We signed a twinning agreement with Potsdam, Germany, the first German city to become our partner. This is extremely important for the education, environment and humanitarian sectors,” Mr Martsinkiv wrote on his social media page.

He thanked Mayor Mike Schubert, Mayor of Potsdam, Deputy Mayor Bernd Rubelt and Pete Heuer, Chairman of the Potsdam City Council, for their support.

“Amidst difficulties and crises, cities and countries should unite to help each other and create more favourable conditions for the future. I am positive that our cooperation will be beneficial and long-lasting in various fields. I would like to congratulate everyone on this event,” the Mayor wrote.

Potsdam became the 20th sister city of Ivano-Frankivsk.

On April 19-20, the International Summit of Cities and Regions was held in Ukraine, organised by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine. Among its objectives was the consolidation of the international community of local and regional authorities in support of Ukraine. 11 different documents on international inter-municipal and inter-regional cooperation were signed at the Summit alone. Furthermore, at the International Summit of Cities and Regions, representatives of the local self-government of Ukraine and about thirty other countries, as well as the highest officials of Ukraine, witnessed by high-ranking officials of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, the Council of Europe, the European Committee of the Regions, declared their readiness to join efforts to help in building a peaceful, democratic and prosperous future, to contribute to the establishment of a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine to ensure international security and stability of the entire world.
