The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, in a publication on his website, proposed to establish twinning relations between Ukrainian and German cities more actively.
Germany already helps Ukraine economically, financially, politically and militarily, but according to the President of Germany, the population of Ukraine also needs practical help with generators and other things.
“Therefore, it is necessary to expand the twinning network of cities with Ukraine, because aid can be provided at the local level from a municipality in Germany to a municipality in Ukraine,” said Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
According to the German President, this is the way it works for Ukrainian cities that have sister cities in German.
Others also need such support, to get clothes or generators. Or the municipality we visited is now changing the heating system and saying: ‘We live in the woods, so now we need something to chop wood such as shredders.’ We must initiate such practical forms of cooperation,” said Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
As was reported previously, Bucha received 10 buses for passenger transportation from its German sister city of Bergisch Gladbach to use.
In March, the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine initiated the International Marathon of Local Governments aimed at drawing the attention of municipalities around the world to the tragedy of Ukrainian municipalities and boosting the process of establishing sisterly relations.
