Chernihiv received funds from Memmingen and Hradec Králové.
This was announced by the press service of the Chernihiv City Council.
The German sister city of Memmingen provided almost 152,000 euros. At the rate of the National Bank, this is UAH 5,549,928. In accordance with the proposals expressed in the sister city’s letter, the Chernihiv City Council will direct these funds to the restoration of the city’s outdoor lighting damaged during active hostilities and to the measures under the Programme for the Creation of a Material Reserve, such as the purchase of furnaces and firewood for heating points in the winter season.
Chernihiv received 11,976 euros (UAH 433,600) from the Czech sister city of Hradec Králové. This money will be used to restore windows in Preschool No. 14.
Earlier, Deputy Minister for Communities and Territorial Development of Ukraine, Viacheslav Nehoda, emphasised the importance of external support for Ukrainian municipalities. “We welcome every step towards new sisterly relations between Ukrainian and foreign municipalities. I believe that the establishment of such relations will benefit both parties. After all, Ukrainian municipalities have gained unprecedented experience in ensuring the day-to-day functioning of territories,” he said.
Previously, the Ministry for Communities and Territorial Development of Ukraine initiated the International Marathon of Local Governments that boosted the process of establishing sisterly relations between municipalities of Ukraine and those of other countries.
