Amendments to the Constitution to enshrine the achievements of decentralisation, introduced by the Government of Ukraine, as well as local self-government strengthening, are urgently needed, said Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman at the Regional Development Council, which gathered representatives of regional authorities from across the country.
“We cannot avoid amendments to the Constitution. They will protect the reform over the coming decades. It's high time to update our strategies, renew legislation, introduce irreversible changes,” said Volodymyr Groysman. “We cannot slow down the decentralisation process. We see that the system resists those willing to amalgamate. At the local level, someone creates obstacles – either the rayon state administration, or the rayon council. And who gave the right to stop people on their way to success? We cannot prevent people from being successful.”
