Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is one of Ukrainian oblasts, where a pilot project on solid waste management of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme will be implemented. On 17 October, the project on “Improvement of the quality of services in the field of waste management at the municipal level in AHs”, implemented in the Zhytomyr, Volyn and Dnipropetrovsk Oblasts, was presented in the Dnipropetrovsk LGDC.

“The project envisages training of AH specialists in solid household waste management and support in the development of action plans on management and promotion of intermunicipal cooperation in this field. This problem is acute in Ukraine, including in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast,” says Tetyana Anishchuk, deputy director of the project.

Upon presentation of the project in the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, 15 AHs will be selected on a competitive basis. They will continue their training to eventually be able to create effective waste management action plans. The trainings envisage five modules. At present, about 20 hromadas’ representatives have submitted applications for participation in the project.

The initiative is also aimed at organising awareness-raising activities for citizens and relevant stakeholders at local, regional and national levels. Duration of the project: October 2018 – October 2019.
