Cross-border cooperation accelerates economic development of remote rayons – expert

During 7 and 8 June, politicians, scientists and representatives of the public gather in Lviv to discuss the peculiarities of cross-border cooperation, prospect of small border traffic and, in particular, the economic dimension of cross-border cooperation at the IV Ukrainian-Polish scientific forum “Cross-border cooperation and common European space: theory, practice and new possibilities”. The forum is visited by Rasa Juknevičienė, acting President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, within the frames of her official visit to Lviv.

The forum was organised by the Institute of Humanitarian and Social Sciences of the Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine) and the Institute of Political Sciences of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (Poland).

Zenoviy Siryk, regional development expert of the Lviv LGDC, established with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme, took part in the scientific discussion. According to him, cross-border cooperation is an instrument to accelerate economic development of remote rayons in order to gradually overcome their lagging behind more developed territories. “The format of such cooperation is an effective tool for the creation of a “common Europe” without internal frontiers. Due to the development of cross-border cooperation, the AH budget will not only get significant revenues, but also increase the efficiency of hromada management,” said Zenoviy Siryk.
