A clear route map for the development of mountain areas is a task which must unite the Parliament, the Government and local self-government bodies. This statement was made by Hennadii Zubko, Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, at the Forum “Development Opportunities for Mountain Areas in the Context of the Decentralisation Reform” taking place in Yaremche.
According to Hennadii Zubko, special attention is now being paid to the mountain areas of the Carpathian region whose specifics is obviously different from other territories. In figures, these are four oblasts – Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv and Chernivtsi: 60,000 sq. km of land, 715 settlements including 280 settlements located at the height of 600 meters; 94% of these settlements are villages; these mountain areas have almost 700,000 residents. These territories must have a proper quality of life!
