First media libraries launched in Chernihiv Oblast

The issue of inclusive education in Ukraine started to be discussed not so long ago, but the attitude towards children with special needs and their parents in society is changing rather rapidly.

At schools inclusive classes are established and educational environment is becoming barrier-free and friendly to meet the needs of special pupils. Children with disabilities can communicate with peers, learn, participate in school competitions and holidays, while ordinary children become more attentive, friendly and responsible, realising that there are those who need their help and support.

Hromadas of the Chernihiv Oblast do not stand apart the problems of children with special needs and are actively involved in the creation of special educational spaces – media libraries, in the framework of a social programme “Inclusive education – the level of nation’s consciousness”, supported by the Poroshenko Charity Foundation.

The first media library (in the hromada and not in the oblast centre) started its operation at Koryukivska general secondary school No 4 in November. For this purpose, UAH 511 thousand were allocated from the town budget.
