On 14-17 November in Lublin Voivodship, the heads and deputy heads of AHs, as well as the leaders of the Rivne and Volyn local government development centres, were studying the best practices of the local government of Poland and citizens’ involvement in the decision-making process.
The Ukrainian delegation had the opportunity to combine the theory and practice and to see various management approaches in quiet different municipalities of the neighbouring country. On the first day of the visit, Pawel Prokop, chairman of the Foundation for Managerial Initiatives and advisor to Lublin City Mayor, familiarised the guests with the local self-government reform. In addition to historical journey, Mr Prokop emphasised the importance to involve citizens in decision-making. After all, this is the way that allows solving a lot of issues with no controversies.
The heads of the amalgamated hromadas got acquainted with the work of the Lublin Union of Municipalities and talked with Krzysztof Lontka, director of the department of non-investment projects of the Lublin Mayor’s Office, on the project activities and fundraising sources. Krzysztof Lontka focused on the programmes that are now most relevant in the framework of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation, in particular, the programmes, that will be implemented in a year or two, but already require preliminary preparation.
