The Poltava region has taken another step towards expanding its international cooperation by signing a five-year partnership agreement with Suffolk County Council (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland)
During his working visit to the United Kingdom, Volodymyr Kohut, Acting Head of the Poltava Regional State Administration, together with a team from the Regional Military Administration and representatives of the business community, presented the region’s potential, cultural heritage, and economic opportunities.
‘We are fulfilling the instructions of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy to establish ties between regions of Ukraine and those of our partner countries,’ said Volodymyr Kohut.
The main focus is on rebuilding the Poltava region once a lasting peace has been established, and on creating sustainable links between people, communities, institutions, and businesses.
Matthew Hicks, Leader of Suffolk County Council, emphasised that the signed memorandum represents much more than just a document:
‘It is a clear and heartfelt commitment to work together, to learn from one another, and to build a partnership that reflects our shared values and aspirations. This agreement contains practical steps that will help both our regions grow stronger. But it is also about building connections between our communities, between our schools and colleges, between our businesses and institutions. It is about creating opportunities for exchange, for learning and for mutual support. The Memorandum provides a foundation on which we will build real, lasting connections.’
During the visit, the Poltava delegation presented a cultural heritage art project created with the help of modern technology, and held a joint meeting with the Suffolk Business Council.
‘We are working on real projects that will boost the region’s economic potential. Suffolk County has supported Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. However, official cooperation between regions is an important component of effective and high-quality interaction and exchange of experience,’ said Volodymyr Kohut. ‘I am grateful to the Government of the United Kingdom and the people of Great Britain for their support and willingness to help, both now and after the war ends.’
Signing the Memorandum was not just a symbol of solidarity; it was also a concrete step towards establishing a partnership network between Ukrainian and British regions to promote economic growth, territorial recovery, and the development of personal connections.ф
