The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has identified a list of priority projects for constructing and restoring water supply networks. This includes constructing new water pipelines in the Vinnytsia, Odesa, and Poltava regions, and completing projects already underway in the Dnipropetrovsk and Mykolaiv regions.
The construction work will be carried out using a simplified procedure as part of a pilot project developed by the Agency for Restoration in collaboration with the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories, and approved by the Government.
The mechanism of the experimental project not only reduces bureaucratic procedures, but also accelerates the allocation of funding. This allows work to start faster, restoring the water supply and providing people with drinking water in the shortest possible time.
‘This experimental project is a rapid response tool to the challenges that the war has created for water supply systems. It will enable the swift restoration of critical infrastructure, provide people with access to clean drinking water and lay the groundwork for the sustainable development of communities,’ said Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration of Ukraine – Minister for Development of Communities and Territories.
This decision will enable water supply systems to be launched quickly in the regions, creating conditions that will allow people to return and communities to resume normal life.
As previously reported, the final stage of the new water pipeline launch began in the Mykolaiv region on 2 September. Test pumping of water continued throughout the month. Water has already started being supplied to the canal system and reservoirs. The next step is to gradually replace the salt water in Mykolaiv residents’ taps with fresh water. This process will take approximately two weeks.
