On July 9, 2024, the cities of Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, and Lubny, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine, embarked on a significant new chapter by signing a cooperation agreement. Supported by the USAID HOVERLA Activity, this partnership promises to foster a vibrant exchange of culture, knowledge, and economic opportunities between the two communities.
“At USAID, we are very proud to work not just with our national government partners, but also at the community level with our essential local government counterparts on local governance, economic development, and citizen engagement. All of these contribute to Ukraine's progress on democratic reforms and to your victory. Together, this partnership, as well as our broader work and all the connections that will stem from this, will lead to a deeper, more prosperous, and more accountable understanding between our peoples and support for the people of Ukraine toward victory,” highlighted Ann Hopper, Director of USAID Ukraine’s Office of Democracy and Governance.
The agreement between Ann Arbor and Lubny aims to create a dynamic bridge, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and mutual growth. Residents of both cities can look forward to enriched cultural experiences, shared expertise, and strengthened economic ties that will benefit their communities for years to come.
“The governments of Ann Arbor and Lubny are each committed to improving basic services and enhancing quality of life for all members of our respective communities. We look forward to sharing with you some aspects of how we provide service and learning about how you meet your challenges and better the lives of your residents,” said Christopher Taylor, Mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
This cooperation marks a significant milestone, symbolizing unity and collaboration across continents. Focus areas will include knowledge transfer, the promotion of best practices, municipal entrepreneurship, and cultural exchanges.
“Lubny is open to cooperation and delighted that our partnerships are expanding, thanks to the collaboration with the USAID HOVERLA Project. We now have the opportunity to establish cooperation with the American city of Ann Arbor. Our primary priorities for this partnership are the development of housing and communal services, healthcare, culture and education, and the safety of our residents,” stated Oleksandr Hrytsaienko, Mayor of Lubny, Poltava Oblast.
The cooperation agreement will contribute to dynamic and fruitful relations between Ann Arbor and Lubny, benefiting the people of both cities.
