Charity Foundation “Brave to Rebuild” signed memoranda with six municipalities of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions on reconstructing schools that suffered from full-scale Russian invasion in 2022-2023. Charitable organization “Charity Foundation “Brave” signed memoranda with six municipalities of Kyiv and Chernihiv regions on reconstructing schools that suffered from full-scale Russian invasion in 2022-2023.

Schools will be repaired within the program U-LEAD with Europe with the financial support of the Service of Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission.

The memoranda were the result of previous agreements on the repairment of two schools in the Kyiv region: the Kukhari Lyceum in Ivankiv municipality and the Makovyshche Gymnasium in Makariv municipality.

In addition, 4 more schools will be rebuilt in the Chernihiv region: Lykhachiv Lyceum in the Mryn municipality, Shapovalivka Lyceum in the Borzna municipality, Dorohynka Lyceum in the Ichnia municipality and Novyi Bykiv Lyceum in Nova Basan municipality.

A separate project will be prepared for each school, as each of the schools has different damages. Among the works that will be carried out will be the replacement of the roofs, windows and doors, and the repairing of classrooms, assembly halls, gyms and halls. Also, if necessary, repairing heating systems, and power supply, equipping with new energy-efficient lighting, and provisioning modern furniture and equipment will be carried out.

In all schools toilets will be renovated with the installation of boilers, as well as inclusive entrance groups with ramps will be equipped.

Vitaly Selyk, director of the Charitable Foundation “Brave”, said that the principle of Build Back Better will be used during the restoration work to do better than before.

"It is very important for us to give affected schools a new lease of life, to implement innovative development scenarios. And this is not only our wish. Teachers and students ask directly for the relevant elements of reconstruction. We will try to transfer the best experience of creating school space in the EU countries", - said Vitaliy Selyk.

An essential factor of the project is the involvement of volunteers from the "Brave to Rebuild" municipality and the municipalities where the schools are located. This will speed up the works and involve a wide range of Ukrainians and foreigners in directly overcoming the consequences of Russian aggression.

"Brave" will repair schools within the project "U-LEAD with Europe Phase II: Local School Rehabilitation for Resilience" with the financial support of the Service of Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission.

The U-LEAD initiative "Local School Rehabilitation for Resilience" aims to provide concrete support to 12 selected war-affected municipalities in three regions of Ukraine  — Chernihiv, Kyiv and Kharkiv oblasts  — by funding their individual approaches to restoring access to education, namely enabling them to assess the damage and invest in the repair of school buildings or, if the latter are structurally unsafe or destroyed, to provide access to online learning through the creation of digital learning centres.
