Kyiv and Barcelona are now sister cities This was announced by Vitaliy Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv.

“Today, cooperation at the level of cities is critical because cities play a pivotal role in the development of states and deepening cooperation between them. We are grateful to our friends who help us. Barcelona donated fire trucks and humanitarian aid to Ukraine and provided temporary shelter to Ukrainians fleeing the war,” said the mayor of Kyiv.

According to him, during the meeting with the mayor of Barcelona, ​​Ada Kolow, they discussed cooperation in public transport, environment, smart city and culture.

Earlier, in June of this year, Madrid became the first Spanishsister city of Kyiv. The memorandum on that was signed by Vitaliy Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv, and José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid.

In March, the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine initiated the International Marathon of Local Governments aimed at drawing the attention of the municipalities around the world to the tragedy of Ukrainian municipalities and boosting the process of establishing sisterly relations.
