Since the outbreak of the Russian invasion, as an immediate neighbor, Slovakia is in the front line of the worldwide effort to help Ukraine and Ukrainians with humanitarian aid. The Slovak civic association “SME SPOLU” and its charity fund “Ukraine-Slovakia SOS”, established by Ukrainians living in Slovakia joined the efforts to support Ukraine with humanitarian aid. Ukraine-Slovakia SOS with the aim of helping children, internally displaced people, and victims of the war has been closely coordinated its activities with UNCHR, Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, central and local governments in Ukraine. The physical and financial contributions have been donated by the Slovak private companies, institutions, and regular citizens.
On Monday, March 7th the Ukraine-Slovakia SOS sent a 24-ton large truck of humanitarian aid (with around 90 cubic meters of goods), which included means of medical care, sleeping bags, mats, mattresses, bed linen, hygiene products, hygiene products for children, disinfectants, electric appliance, food, and water for victims of the war in Ukraine. The humanitarian aid from Slovakia was delivered from Bratislava to Obroshyno community in Lviv Oblast. The aid is further disseminated to the most affected by war cities (Melitopol) and those communities hosting now internally displaced people (Sokilnyky, Gorodok, Zolochiv, Dobrotvir and Kyiv). Medical supply was also delivered to hospitals and local self-defense units.
Thanks to an excellent cooperation between the Slovak and Ukrainian partners, new freight(s) will be prepared and delivered to Ukraine, supporting Ukrainian people during this difficult time.
