On January, 27 the committee on the organization of the state power, local self-government, regional and urban development of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine considered Bill on amending some laws of Ukraine on the starosta institute development №4535 and recommended the Parliament to take it as a basis.

«The bill suggests conducting an obligatory public discussion of starosta candidates prior to their nomination to the council, approving of and dismissing the starosta. It is also important that, by virtue of the local self- government body decision, certain tasks of ASC administrator are assigned to the starosta. These provisions are the main in the bill, all the rest govern merely technical issues: the procedure of establishing starosta districts, hromada council’s approving of provisions on the starosta, starosta concurrent service, etc.», - commented Vyacheslav Nehoda, Deputy Minister of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, for the Decentralisation portal.
