The bill On Waste Management has been adopted in the first reading: what will it give to hromadas

On July, 21 the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted bill №2207-1d On Waste management in the first reading.

The bill will establish new transparent rules and make it possible to create an up-to-date waste management system.

"The law being passed, there will emerge a new player in the waste management system – an operator of the municipal household wastage management system, represented by a municipal enterprise. Such an operator is obligatory for hromadas with more than 150 thousand residents, for other hromadas it is optional. Introducing such an operator enables local self-government bodies to concentrate all responsibility for the service organisation", - comments Vyacheslav Sorokovskyi, a public service expert of the Swiss-Ukrainian DESPRO project.
