First “Library Nanny” appeared in Pokrovske AH – new children's library service for kids and their parents
Municipal Culture Institution "Pokrovske Library" took part in the project competition "Hromada for a person: raising hromadas’ competence in social service development", carried out by the Partnership the "For Every Child" with the support of the "U-LEAD with Europe" Programme, funded by the European Union and its member states Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Poland and Sweden.
The aim of the project is to improve the well-being of vulnerable groups of the population by developing capacity of social sector leaders and specialists in amalgamated hromadas as far as implementation of the model of integrated social services is concerned.
The project envisages creation of a cultural and leisure space for meaningful leisure and creative development of children in the Pokrovske children's library, in particular aims to support mothers with provision of a short-term stay for 4 to 6 year-old children in a comfortable and safe environment; help students in preparing their homework, set up mothers’ club, conduct art therapy training, etc.
It should be noted that the Pokrovske children's library has all the possibilities to meet the needs of young readers: a comfortable room recently renovated at the hromada expense, over 10,000 books, interesting periodicals, computers with Internet access.
Library workers are constantly searching for new forms of library work, and with the help of this project, in particular introduction of the new Library Nanny service, we plan to bring more children and their parents to the library.
Through the grant the library received toys and educational games, coloring books and books with games, toys, materials for drawing, modeling, etc. The youngest users and their parents have already appreciated the play area of the library, where children spend their free time developing creatively and intellectually.
Mothers who are raising 3 or more children were invited for a friendly conversation and a cup of tea to the library. In course of communication, at the initiative of the library staff, Iryna Andrieieva, head of children’s issues sector of the executive committee of the Pokrovske settlement council, and due to support of the mothers themselves, a mothers’ club was created at Pokrovske children's library. Olena Berezhna was elected as head of the club. Pokrovske Library Nanny has plenty of interesting events and meetings planned.
