All Chernihiv Oblast’s hromadas face the problem of spontaneous landfills, which for years have arisen on their territories and are actively “maintained” by residents.

The team of the Chernihiv Local Government Development Centre, established with the support of the U-LEAD with Europe Programme and MinRegion, helps hromadas find solutions for managing solid household waste by organising trainings, seminars and study visits.

Volunteers of the Talalayivska amalgamated hromada promote separate collection of garbage and sorting of secondary raw materials. They say that at first the sorting point was set up in a private garage, and then they addressed the AH settlement council asking for some premises.

According to volunteer Oleksandr Smalko, schoolchildren have the highest interest in the information on the need for waste sorting.
