Heads of amalgamated hromadas spoke about their small victories at the 2nd All-Ukrainian Forum.
Olena Tverdokhlib, Head of the Knyahynynivska amalgamated hromada of the Volyn Oblast:
“I spent all my youth in the Czech Republic. I went there in search of work at 23, and returned being 33 year old, believing in the promises of President Viktor Yushchenko. Then I became a private entrepreneur, and in the next twelve years I did not see any changes. I witnessed decentralisation in the Czech Republic, so when I heard about a similar reform in Ukraine, I had the hope that we could change everything in our country. I am happy that I was not deceived by this. People have already renewed their confidence in the local authorities. People of all ages attend hromada general meetings, emphasise, demand, discuss issues. In order not to be accused of theft, I decided to make the budget public. Thus, we have something to talk about.”
