Berdychiv and Wieluń agreed on cooperation

As part of a working visit to Poland, the Berdychiv delegation headed by Mayor Serhii Orliuk visited the town of Wieluń and met with its Vice Mayor Joanna Skotnicka-Fiuk. The meeting resulted in an agreement on future cooperation in cultural, economic, tourist and other areas.

This was reported by the website of the Berdychiv City Council.

The parties also discussed the provision of several buses to Berdychiv as humanitarian aid. According to the Polish side, the vehicles will be delivered to the Berdychiv municipality after their technical condition is checked and all the formalities are handled.

As Joanna Skotnicka-Fiuk stressed, the people of Wieluń can understand like no other what the Ukrainian people are going through in connection with Russia’s full-scale invasion since Wieluń was the first target of the Nazis in World War II.

On 1 September 1939, at 4:40 a.m., German bombers carried out an air raid on Wieluń. During the attack, which lasted more than 9 hours, 380 bombs with a total weight of 46 tons were dropped on the city. 75% of buildings were destroyed and about 1,200 civilians died, the vice mayor said.

According to Ms Skotnicka-Fiuk, the Polish people in general and Wieluń in particular are ready to help Ukraine in its fight against the aggressor by all possible means.

Mayor Serhii Orliuk extended his gratitude to our foreign friends for their support and understanding and expressed hope for long-term and fruitful cooperation.
