Kyiv and Copenhagen signed a Memorandum of Partnership

This was announced on the official website of Kyiv.

“The capital of Denmark is an advanced modern European city with a high standard of living and social security, which cares about its residents, environment and safety. Kyiv is interested in Copenhagen’s experience and effective cooperation with this city,” the portal quotes Vitaliy Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv.

He held a meeting with the delegation of the Kingdom of Denmark: Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Peter Rahbek Juel, Mayor of Odense, Jacob Bundsgaard, Mayor of Aarhus and the Vice-Chairman of the Local Self-Government of Denmark, and Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Denmark to Ukraine.

Earlier, Decentralization reported that Copenhagen used to refrain from entering into general twinning agreements, and Kyiv would become the first twin city of the capital of Denmark.

It is also reported that the Mayor of Kyiv, who is also the Chairman of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, met with the Vice-President of the Association of Municipalities of the Netherlands, Sharon Dijksma.

“I am grateful to the authorities of the Netherlands for the fact that the country sheltered many Ukrainians fleeing the war. Having survived a very difficult winter thanks to international support, we are in need of further help in rebuilding municipalities, especially in the de-occupied territories and those that have suffered severe destruction from the Russian barbarians. The Association of Ukrainian Cities has been cooperating with the Association of Municipalities of the Netherlands (VNG) for about 20 years, implementing joint projects. Today the Association of Ukrainian Cities and VNG are implementing a project to rebuild Ukrainian cities, villages and towns. 4 municipalities from the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions are currently taking part in it (Kherson, Ochakiv, Beryslav and the village of Vysokopillia),” said the Mayor of Kyiv.

These localities are assisted in the development of recovery plans. Vitaliy Klitschko stressed his belief that the cooperation of the Dutch and Ukrainian municipalities would be effective for the recovery of Ukrainian municipalities.

As Vitaliy Klitschko noted, the cooperation with VNG also allowed the Association of Ukrainian Cities to establish contacts, for instance, between the Dutch municipality of Opsterland and the Ukrainian village of Nedryhailiv. Opsterland handed over two cars and humanitarian aid to Nedryhailiv.

Vitaliy Klitschko thanked all foreign friends for their support and assistance to Kyiv and Ukraine, as well as for effective cooperation.
