Chortkiv, Ternopil region, is the first of the Ukrainian towns to be accepted into the European Association of Local Authorities in the Energy Transition (Energy Cities).

Decentralization received this announcement in the Chortkiv City Council.

Membership in the Association will allow the municipality to look for partner cities for sharing experience and joint participation in grant competitions of the European Union in the field of energy and environmental protection. The municipality can follow the calls of other European cities and join research, projects, and programmes aimed at increasing the share of “green” energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Membership in the Association improves the chances of the Chortkiv municipality to find new sister cities to establish mutually beneficial cooperation.

The European Association of Local Authorities in the Energy Transition includes more than 1,000 cities in 30 European countries, including the Ukrainian cities of Lviv, Mariupol and Ivano-Frankivsk.
