People’s diplomacy: demonstrations in support of Ukraine will be held in the cities of the world; Ukrainians abroad are welcome to join

From 23 to 26 February, demonstrations in support of Ukraine will be held in 95 cities of 29 countries. Their goal is to emphasise the need to provide greater support to Ukraine and strengthen sanctions against the aggressor — the russian federation — in order to stop the war and ensure the victory of Ukraine in its struggle for independence and preservation of territorial integrity.

The local organisers are the activists of Ukrainian municipalities and the diaspora. The co-organiser of the events and coordinator of the campaign is the Communities Army of Ukraine, the association of municipalities of Ukraine.

The campaign called #LightWillWinOverDarkness is also aimed to remind the international community that the war launched by the kremlin against the Ukrainian people back in 2014 has been going on for 9 years so far. The slogan of the campaign is “Light Will Win Over Darkness.” The organisers emphasize that the “yellow-blue light” must win, and the moscow-putin darkness must be defeated. In some cities, it is planned to create a “living map of Ukraine” flash mob with the help of the participants of the actions, who will hold lit flashlights in their hands.

The inspiration for the slogan of the demonstrations in support of Ukraine on the anniversary of the full-scale invasion was a phrase that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, uttered in the European Parliament: “Life will win over death, and light will win over darkness”. The American magazine Time placed this quote on the flag of Ukraine on its cover.
