Irpin and Gdańsk initiated the creation of the Association of Municipalities of Ukraine and Poland.

This was announced by Oleksandr Markushyn, Mayor of Irpin.

“We will start with close cooperation between the Irpin municipality and the Gdańsk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area. Our goal is that every Polish city, town or village has its reliable counterpart in Ukraine so that together we continue to do what our countries have been doing: support each other, help each other, fight evil together and rejoice in our victories together,” said Oleksandr Markushyn.

Irpin actively develops sisterly relations with municipalities of many countries.

Irpin recently signed a Memorandum on International Partnership with the Mexican city of Tlajomulco. Earlier, Irpin twinned with Guernica, Spain. Irpin City Council also approved the decision to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with another Spanish city, Alcalá de Henares. The cities of Irpin and Syracuse (US) recently agreed on the establishment of sisterly relations. Decentralization also reported on Irpin’s intentions to twin with Miami, US.

In March, the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine initiated the International Marathon of Local Governments aimed at drawing the attention of municipalities around the world to the tragedy of Ukrainian municipalities and boosting the process of establishing sisterly relations.
